Investment in Children’s Play Provision

天美传媒鈥檚 Council Executive Committee has today approved plans to invest in children鈥檚 play facilities in the county borough.

Cabinet members supported the Children鈥檚 Play Provision report which highlights a number of parks where new play equipment will be installed, thanks to funding received from the Welsh Government via the All Wales Play Opportunities Grant (AWPOG).

Following a comprehensive Playground Review undertaken by the Council a number of key sites have been identified as a priority for new equipment.

The Executive also granted approval for officers to further review the future of play areas that currently offer little or no play value. Local ward members will be engaged and consulted with over the future use of these sites.

The report had earlier been supported by members of the Community Services Scrutiny Committee in September.

The Council鈥檚 Executive Member for the Environment Cllr Joanna Wilkins says:

鈥淚 am pleased that by working in partnership with Welsh Government we are able to modernise and update some of our play areas here in 天美传媒.  Play areas provide many benefits to the community, including improving the health and well-being of children and young people and their families. Open play spaces offer an opportunity for play, creativity and recreation within the natural environment, which I think we have all appreciated more during this time of Covid. This as a long-term approach to sustainable play and we have also identified other areas for improvements should more funding become available.鈥

The play areas to be upgraded are:

鈥 Banna Park, Nantyglo
鈥 Duffryn Park, Blaina
鈥 Gelli Grug Park, Abertillery
鈥 Brynmawr Welfare Park
鈥 Warm Turn Play Area, Abertillery
鈥 New Rassau Park, Ebbw Vale
